Originally, I was a dancer. Which is how I rather unintentionally developed the beginnings of a passion for color and fabric. During my studies as a choreographer I quickly found how brilliantly a dance could be enhanced with a balanced integration of fabric, pattern and color.
Pulling from my background in dance, a love of knitting that I learned from my Grandmother and a chance encounter with a floor loom while visiting family in Finland, Pirtti Handwoven was born. The designs sold are my own and are woven by me in my studio using a LeClerc floor loom. The scarves are made with great care using antiquated methods with a strong focus on color and movement to produce a luxurious cloth that is made entirely by hand.
