I am so pleased to share with you my latest project, Valtameri. Valtameri is the Finnish word for Ocean. This scarf was inspired by many long walks along the Pacific Ocean while my family and I lived in San Francisco. The walks were often cold, foggy and filled with melancholic beauty. From my perch on the cliff-like edge of the Presidio, I would watch the container ships find their way to the Bay. It was a moment to realize just how big our world is, and just how small I am.
Valtameri came to fruition through a collaboration with Whisper Editions. Judith’s theme was “Coast to Coast” and I seized the opportunity to pay homage to our time in northern California. Whisper is a beautifully curated collection of photographs, jewelry and other bespoke items made by artisans around the country. I am thrilled to be one of her featured artists and in the company of such lovely things.
This collection is a limited edition of 10. They are available exclusively through Whisper Editions, both online and in store at 8 Fulton Street, NYC. They are handwoven by me using cotton and silk for a lightweight scarf that is wearable for both men and women.
